The Catalonia Circuit Must Be Completely Renovated As To The Asphalt Condition of Trajectory
Racing news - Circuit Catalunya highlighted many riders related to the asphalt track. MotoGP is expected to push for re-asphalting.
The MotoGP rider complained about the pavement conditions of the trajectory in the Catalunya series. The track has no good grip and waves that make the situation even more difficult, especially with very high track temperatures.
Circuit Catalunya last time experiencing pavement in 2007 ago. Rider KTM Bradley Smith called it time for the Catalunya circuit to update their asphalt, following the quality of the track in other series.
If not, he hopes the organizers can think of another place as a replacement considering that many want to host MotoGP.
"This is the only track on the race calendar that does not really react to the request of the Safety Commission, riders and organizers," Smith said quoted by Motorsport.
"So at some point you have to give them an ultimatum, and I think this is the last year they'll be in that situation."
"We have a lot of people who want us to race in new places, we do not have to come in. New asphalt is something we've been asking for over a few years," he added.
Aleix Espargaro also supports Smith's statement. The Aprilia rider assesses the renewal of the asphalt path more crucially and provides security, rather than changing the design.
As is known, Catalunya circuit change a little design following the accident that made Moto2 racer Luis Salom died in 2016 ago.
"It's not that we do not want to race, but we can not, Whether it's using F1 bends (new designs), they take off the wall, or we go back to the 12 (old design) bend usually with wider space, we can not race like this. It's impossible, it's dangerous, "Espargaro said.
Meanwhile, a circuit representative said there were no plans for resurfacing so far. The unnamed source admits the circuit will still be waiting for organizers report after the tournament finish.
"We will need to wait for the FIM report after the Grand Prix, like every year, then we will make a decision," Motorsport reports.
